PCHS of Alaska - Dental Office Training Program
Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) conducted a very successful training program for individuals interested in employment in the dental field. This was a fast-paced, three week program held February 14, 2011 through March 4, 2011 provided participants with the basic knowledge necessary for entry level positions in a dental office.
Purpose: The purpose of the Dental Office Training Program was to provide participants with the basic foundation and knowledge necessary to gain entry level employment in a dental office. It was a multi-track class with instruction in front office/administrative assistant and clinical/dental assistant duties.
Training Details: Participants completed 3 weeks of classroom and hands-on instruction focusing on both the front office and clinical portion of the dental office. Participants were expected to attend and complete all portions of the training program, including assignments and assessments and received a certificate of completion upon successfully finishing the program.
Training Schedule: The training program dates were February 14, 2011 to March 4, 2011. Class times were 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday with appropriate breaks provided throughout the day. Participants were expected to attend ALL class sessions, arrive on time each day, and participate in training activities. The classes were held at both Cottonwood Medical Building in the multi-purpose room, computer lab, and clinical days at Aspen.
Career Opportunities: Individuals who successfully completed the Dental Office Training Program possess the basic knowledge necessary to accept such positions as sterilization tech, front office/administrative assistant, and dental assistant trainee. Graduates were not guaranteed employment with PCHS Previous graduates have said completing the class has helped them to gain employment in the dental field to further their training as a dental assistant or administrative professional.
Tuition: Tuition for the Dental Office Training Program was $710 which included all necessary materials.
At this time there are no plans to offer any future dental training programs.
